Moon Man Paints

About Moon Man Paints

Moon Man Paints is an independent, artist-led studio built on imagination, resilience, and the belief that art can open a window beyond the limits of the present moment.

Our collection brings original paintings and photography into made-to-order wall art and wearable pieces. Every product begins with the artist's work and is prepared with care so the image, proportions, and character of the original are respected.

Painting the Light

My journey as an artist began when I was ten years old. I started with oil paints, landscapes, and the fascination of discovering that an empty surface could become another world. Some of my earliest artistic memories are of watching my grandfather sketch boats. Seeing a few lines become something recognizable—something with a story—felt almost magical.

As I grew older, creativity found its way into nearly everything I did. I painted signs for the community, festivals, kiosks, landscapes, and whatever else gave me an opportunity to create. Art was not simply something I practiced; it became part of how I experienced the world.

My life eventually took a dramatically different direction, and I found myself serving a life sentence at San Quentin State Prison. In an environment defined by concrete, steel, rules, and confinement, painting became more than a hobby. It became peace, therapy, and a place where my mind could travel even when I could not.

Somewhere in that journey, the moon began to appear. One of the first moons I painted was above a locker in a small prison cell. It was a simple image, but what it represented was much larger: imagination, possibility, resilience, and the idea that even when your physical world becomes small, your mind does not have to become small with it.

Through rehabilitative programs, other artists, music, service, community, and years of personal growth, creativity became part of a larger transformation. One piece from that chapter remains especially meaningful to me: the Moons of Wisdom mural on Donner Unit at San Quentin.

Art without walls

Today, Moon Man Paints is an extension of that journey. My work moves between the natural world and the imagined one—forests, flowers, oceans, landscapes, moons, stars, galaxies, and places somewhere between reality and fantasy.

Nature gives me the starting point. Imagination takes me somewhere else.

I do not believe art always needs to explain itself. Sometimes a painting should simply make you stop, look closer, feel something, remember something, or imagine something you have not imagined before.

Each piece carries part of the road that brought me here: the difficult chapters, the beautiful ones, the mistakes, the lessons, the healing, and the belief that creativity can survive almost anything.

Moon Man Paints is about finding beauty in unexpected places, creating light when the world feels dark, and remembering that another world is always waiting inside the imagination.

Dream. Create. Inspire.
